I only beat them from a distance or over rough terrain.Īlso: Pop-tarting is not any cheezier than ECM. But most times I have gone head to head with an Atlas I have lost. Highlanders are definitely far more mobile than an Atlas. If you don't like missiles, you will have to get used to having all your weapons on one torso/arm. All Highlanders except HM have a lopsided hardpoint setup where all direct fire weapons are on one side, which has always irritated me. They can be great missile boats as well if you're into that. I really REALLY like this on maps where you have to follow a target over steep terrain.the mobility of arm mounted AC/20 of Gauss cannot be understated IMO. They can also mount an AC/20 in arms, and as far as I know are the only Assaults that do so. Highlanders are jump capable and seem to have better hardpoints if you like arm mounted ballistics. The only thing it has that I miss is ECM capability. I like being able to specialize weapons, and all the Atlas models seem to have everything spread all over. The Atlas is a jack-of-all-trades mech for assaults. My -RS and -733P are pretty close in build, the 733 has more missiles, and the altas has a gauss.and of course no JJs. My Atlas D is a VERY slow, armored to hell -3D with backup weapons My 733C is basically a D-DC without ECM, down some armor and with 4 JJs. Its pretty close between the Highlander and the Atlas with a number of builds, you basically have to chose mobility or armor. What do you think would be best mech in the LONG run of the game? I currently like pop tarting as well but am starting to feel cheezy about it. as well as the extra armor the atlas has. I LOVE ECM and the tactical advantage we get from it. I have enough cbills to buy anything in the game was waiting for orion but just found out that's another month away than I thought it was. What are more advanced teams running these days? Im trying to weigh the good and the bad about both mechs. Given the current meta of the game I'm leaning highlander but REALLY like the atlas as a chassis. I am just torn on this subject I want an assault mech! I have had stalkers, absolutely hated how slow they where. 50 cal rounds in it's face until something breaks.Ok I have heavy mechs and light mech. Just follow it around on technicals and pump. And the idea that well-trained, well-prepared infantry can take out a light mech if they're willing to accept the losses. I thought it was fun how Decision at Thunder Rift has pilots communicating in such narrow radio bands that their voices come out distorted, and part of MechWarrior training is learning to comprehend what anyone's saying. But it was considered roomy for 'Mech standards. You know how the PGI Atlas has the pilot sitting in the right eye? An old internal illustration of the Atlas shows the pilot taking up the whole head. Which makes their weights make more sense, and how in CBT it's so goddamn hard to hit anything. They're also a fair bit smaller than the bloated MW mechs. I remember someone posting a clip from one of the most grounded Gundam shows depicting the more mass-produced mobile suits like look, this closer to what the creators were envisioning. They're capable of strafing, even, it's just that when expressing things in 30m hexes that sort of evasive movement is assumed. Some Spider pilot pulled off a backflip that one time. That's part of why they're favored over tanks! Crouch, drop prone, rip your enemy's arm off and use it as a club. My one major gripe with MechWarrior (and now the BT PC game) is how they make mechs seem like rock 'em sock'em robots.
